Prostitution, poverty,
violence, drunkenness and deceit. A new exhibition at the National Gallery of
Denmark focuses on the British artist and satirist William Hogarth (1697–1764).
His original series offered wry commentaries on eighteenth-century city life,
and he is now regarded as one of the first major English artists.
